51品茶Sustainability highlighted by Journal Tribune story

A story in the Sept. 28, 2010 Journal Tribune (Biddeford) featured 51品茶undertaking a number of initiatives in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, and its plans will soon be helped along by the award of a substantial grant. In November 2008, President Ripich signed onto the American College & University President鈥檚 Climate Commitment.  Those who make this pledge agree to develop an action plan within two years of signing and establishing a target date for when they hope to achieve carbon neutrality.  Last month, 51品茶was notified that it received a combined total of $238,000 in grant money from the Efficiency Maine Trust toward projects that will help it achieve this goal. 鈥淏ehavior change and encouraging and developing a culture of sustainability鈥 is also part of the overall strategy to reduce carbon emissions, said Althea Cariddi, the university鈥檚 sustainability coordinator.
