Press Herald runs front-page photo of middle school students in UNE's SPARTACUS program

The on May 26, 2011 ran a large front-page photo of Massabesic Middle School students hurling oranges into the mouth of the Saco River from Freddy's Beach at the 51品茶Biddeford Campus. 

The students were taking part in a series of activities at 51品茶on May 25th as part of UNE's SPARTACUS Graduate Fellowship Program, which is funded by the National Science Foundation. The orange throwing was part of a river flow experiment to learn about environmental conditions such as winds and currents.

During their visit to 51品茶the 90 eighth-grade students also visited the 51品茶Marine Science Center to learn about marine research and marine mammal rehabilitation.  The students also spent time in the labs with UNE's researchers.

The SPARTACUS program connects university researchers and their graduate students with the K-12 community.
