Denise Giuvelis, 51Ʒ��senior research associate for the Bilsky Laboratory and coordinator for the Center of Excellence in the Neurosciences. was featured by the Bangor Daily News in a July 30, 2012 story and video that highlighted her recent gold medal in the national roller figure skating competition.

Giuvelis, who is a 2007 51Ʒ��medical biology graduate, has been going to the nationals since 1995. This year she won the Junior Solo Dance at the national competition in Lincoln, Neb. She is one of only three competitive artistic skaters from Maine.

“Roller skating is the most fun I ever have. It’s my own happy place,” she said. “It gets me away from the world of work and school and it’s just a fun thing to do.”
