Christine Feurt, Ph.D., of the Department of Environmental Studies, organized a session at this year’s Conference on Ecological and Ecosystem Restoration, which was jointly hosted in New Orleans by the Society for Ecological Restoration and the Conference on Ecosystem Restoration.

The session, titled, “Sustaining Coastal Landscapes and Community Benefits: Ecosystem Service Valuation to Improve the Use of Science in Policy,” focused on Feurt’s collaborative research with the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve and Clark University on the ecosystem services provided by riparian buffers and public support for the policies that protect shoreline buffers.

In the session, Feurt presented “Challenges and Rewards of Transdisciplinary Collaboration to sustain Ecosystem Services” and facilitated a panel discussion on “Benefits and Barriers of Ecosystem Service Valuation for Restoration Practice and Policy.”

The conference was attended by over 600 restoration scientists, practitioners and policy makers working nationally and internationally.
