Interprofessional group of students and faculty volunteer medical services at Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Game
A group of athletic training (AT) and physical therapy (PT) students were accompanied by 51Æ·²èfaculty to provide injury prevention and management services to athletes participating in the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball game on August 9, 2014, at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Proceeds from the event benefited the Wounded Heroes Program of Maine, a division of the Warrior Legacy Foundation.
The event provided an opportunity for both AT and PT students and faculty to witness amazing acts of athleticism and tenacity and to experience a broader, more inclusive definition of what "physically active" means.
Participants included Nicole Smith ‘15, Lauryn Huck ‘16, and Marissa Clifford-Biederman ‘16, all athletic training students, as well as Erika Derks '16, and Jason Glikman ’16, students of physical therapy.
Faculty volunteers included Wayne Lamarre, Med, LAT, ATC, associate clinical professor and director of the Athletic Training Program, and Alissa Towle, and adjunct instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy.
