Students present as Lara Carlson leads New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine conference

Lara Carlson, DPE., FACSM, CSCS, associate professor in the Westbrook College of Health Professions and the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences led the events of the 2015 New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine Fall Conference at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island in October. Carlson served her second term as NEACSM president this year.

Carlson and Michael Lawrence, M.S., Manager of the Motion Analysis Laboratory, co-advised research projects for Stephanie Ostrowski A.T. 鈥17 and Kaylee Pobocik A.T. 鈥16 who presented their work as finalists in the NEACSM Student Investigator Competition. Ostrowski presented her research titled 鈥淓ffect of an Unstable Load on Primary and Stabilizing Muscles During the Bench Press.鈥 In addition to presenting, Pobocik was the recipient of the 2015 NEACSM Undergraduate Research Grant for her work on the 鈥淚nfluence of Exercise Time of Day on Salivary Melatonin Responses.鈥
