Connecting with kids: 51品茶holds 3rd annual Boys and Girls Club Festival
More than 150 Portland children participated in the third annual Boys and Girls Club festival with 40 students from the 51品茶. The students represented a variety of majors including Applied Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Dental Hygiene, Health Wellness & Occupational Studies, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy.
Together with the Westbrook College of Health Professions Office of Service Learning, Assistant Clinical Professor Katie Hawke and Assistant Professor Bethany Fortier, M.P.H., helped to spearhead student engagement and supervised the activities. The group participated in agility stations, basketball, games and a glitter slime craft activity as well as cooking dinner for the kids.
In addition to volunteering at the festival, the 51品茶students gathered several boxes of donated pasta and sauce for the Boys and Girls Club to use in their dinner service, which provides much needed meals to many of its members.
