With kids heading back to school, it’s a good time for parents to look at vaccination guidelines for the whole family, says Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, UNE’s vice president for clinical Affairs and director of the Center for Health Innovation.

In a column for the the Journal Tribune’s Health and Wellness issue, Mills recommends that parents review the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website to learn when their teenage children should be vaccinated against viruses such as HPV. Adults should also be aware of vaccine needs, Mills said, getting an annual flu shot and other immunizations as determined by age, lifestyle and health conditions.

Mills also emphasized the safety of vaccines, saying that “vaccines are considered one of the – if not the – public health achievements of the 20th century.”
