Waeil Elmisalati, B.D.S., M.M.Sc., C.A.G.E., associate clinical professor in the College of Dental Medicine, and Namita Khandelwal, B.D.S., M.S., assistant clinical professor in the the College of Dental Medicine, represented the 51品茶 at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). Held September 10-14 in San Diego, the event brought together more than 4,000 periodontists from across the globe.
In addition to attending lectures, scientific sessions, hands-on workshops and networking events, Elmisalati and Khandelwal participated in the Annual Predoctoral Educators Workshop and Postdoctoral Directors Business Meeting.
This year鈥檚 meeting held special significance as it was a collaborative effort of the American Academy of Periodontology, Japanese Society of Periodontology and the Japanese Academy of Clinical Periodontology. As Japan is considered a 鈥渟uper-aged nation,鈥 with more than 20% of the population over age 65, periodontists in the country have worked to innovate periodontal regenerative therapy for elder populations.
Reflecting on the event, Elmisalati and Khandelwal said that it was a valuable opportunity, giving them exposure to the most recent advancements and cutting edge technology in the fields of periodontics and implant dentistry.
