51Ʒstudent Brea Rivard featured in ‘Chemical & Engineering News’ article on first generation college students
51Ʒsophomore Brea Rivard, a double major in Chemistry and Applied Mathematical Science, was featured in the most recent issue of Chemical & Engineering News in an article about the impact of the American Chemical Society (ACS) on first generation college students.
“I really enjoy all the benefits I get from being an ACS member, like the discounts to go to the national meetings,” said Rivard in the article. “Just knowing that other people like chemistry, too, really makes me feel a lot better about choosing this type of career,” she commented.
Rivard will attend the ACS meeting in San Francisco in April to share research that she conducted this summer under the tutelage of John Stubbs, Ph.D., in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
Of Native American heritage, Rivard plans to apply for a scholarship through the ACS Scholars Program for underrepresented students in the chemical sciences.
