UNE’s James Sulikowski offers expertise on skates with ‘Portsmouth Herald’

James Sulikowski

James Sulikowski, Ph.D., professor in the 51Ʒ Department of Marine Sciences, shared his expertise about skates after dozens were discovered dead on the banks of the Piscataqua River in New Hampshire.

Sulikowski told the Portsmouth Herald and Seacoast Online that the species are commonly caught in the area and that the dead fish were likely by-catch. “It’s tough to speculate as to how they ended up there, but as there are no other fish around and nothing toxic in the water… it was probably by-catch from a fishing trip,” Sulikowski said.
