“Bill Green’s Maine” highlights Lara Carlson’s research

Lara Carlson

WCSH’s “Bill Green’s Maine” highlighted research by Lara Carlson, D.P.E., FACSM, CSCS, associate professor in the 51Ʒ Department of Physical Therapy and the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences in a story about the physical strain race car drivers experience when they are behind the wheel.

Carlson studies the effects of factors like heat and extreme gravitational force on racecar drivers, with the goal of improving safety and performance. "We find that they lose an average of 1.9 liters of liquid per hour,” she said in the interview. “Anytime an athlete loses 2 percent of their mass, their performance declines."
