‘Cape Cod Chronicle’ explains how James Sulikowski is helping researchers study great whites

James Sulikowski

51Ʒ Marine Science Professor James Sulikowski, Ph.D., is collaborating with Greg Skomal, Ph.D., of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries to outfit great white sharks with highly advanced satellite tags to track their movements.

The article, titled, “Tag, You're It: Short-Term Satellite Tags Allow Researchers To Follow Fine-Scale Movements Of Cape Sharks,” explains that the pop-up satellite archival tags collect data such as water depth and temperature. The tags provided by Sulikowski are designed to provide short-term data, popping off the shark and floating to the surface to transmit information via satellite after 28 days. “You can imagine all the really fine-scale information you can get,” Sulikowski said.
