At the ASDA Annual Session, held February 22-25, 2017 in Orlando, Florida, the 51品茶College of Dental Medicine was awarded its first ever Gold Crown Award. Fourth year dental student Nate O鈥橬eill took home top honors in the 鈥淏est Feature Article鈥 category for his piece in Mouth, the Journal of the American Student Dental Association.

O鈥橬eill鈥檚 piece was selected by the editorial board from more than 150 articles. Titled 鈥淧ut your money where your mouth is: A health policy review,鈥 it discussed the Affordable Care Act and health policy. Written prior to the 2016 presidential election, O鈥橬eill described the candidates鈥 policies regarding the Affordable Care Act and how their plans would impact individuals.

鈥淥n the totem pole of health policy, oral health has not received nearly enough attention, especially by presidential candidates,鈥 he wrote. 鈥淚n the future we must consider a more comprehensive analysis for risk of oral disease.鈥
