On March 24, students from the 51品茶College of Pharmacy Class of 鈥19 held their Halfway Charity Gala. The celebration, which marks the midpoint of the second-year students鈥 pharmacy program, was held at Port City Music Hall in Portland. All proceeds benefited Shriners Hospitals for Children.

This year鈥檚 Class of 鈥19 raised $6,000 for the organization, topping last year鈥檚 fundraising to make this the most successful College of Pharmacy gala to date.

The class selected the Shriners Hospitals for Children after reviewing several charitable organizations. Class President Justin Richards (鈥19), who proposed donating to the Shriners network, received corrective spinal surgery from the Shriners when he was a child.

鈥淐ontributing to the Shriners network not only allows us to improve the lives of children, it reminds us of exactly why we are pushing ourselves through such a demanding curriculum,鈥 said Richards. 鈥淎s pharmacy students, we work diligently to develop ourselves into the clinicians required for tomorrow's public health challenges. The halfway gala proved to be a fantastic celebration of our students鈥 successes and served as an example of what teamwork through adversity can accomplish.鈥
