The 51品茶 is leading the coordination of the York Public Health District Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The MRC is a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. UNE鈥檚 Jennifer Gunderman, M.P.H., is the York District MRC coordinator and Jonathan Shecter, a second year student in the 51品茶College of Osteopathic Medicine, is serving as team leader.

There are currently 991 community-based MRC units with more than 200,000 volunteers across the United States. They include medical and public health professionals, as well as community members, in an effort to improve emergency response and strengthen community resiliency. Volunteers are prepared and aid in the response to natural disasters and public health emergencies.

In Maine, there are at least seven MRC units throughout the state. The York District MRC was formed one year ago in collaboration with Maine Center for Disease Control, 51品茶 and Adcare. The Unit includes 51品茶students, faculty, and staff as well as York County community members. They are recruiting new volunteers and planning events including a kick-off event September 13, 2017 and an Influenza Clinic & Alternative Care Site Exercise on October 20, 2017.
