51品茶Nursing students and faculty attend Maine Nurses Day at the State House
As Maine faces a looming nurse shortage, students from the 51品茶 Department of Nursing traveled to Augusta, Maine to represent 51品茶and the future of nursing. The students attended a number of events as part of 鈥淢aine Nurses Day at the State House鈥 on February 14, 2017.
Hannah Plourde 鈥16, Beatrice Jacobson 鈥16, Mathew Lettick 鈥16, Hallie Lehner 鈥16, Hallie Logan 鈥16, and Chloe White 鈥16 were accompanied by Associate Dean Karen Pardue, Ph.D., R.N., ANEF, Nursing Director Jennifer Morton, DNP, MPH, APHN-BC, and Assistant Clinical Professor Judith Metcalf, APRN, BC, MS, FMGS.
They listened to a presentation by Lisa Harvey McPherson RN, MBA, MPPM, vice president of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems Government Relations, that highlighted the nurse鈥檚 role in policy formation. Additionally, students had the opportunity to attend DHHS briefings, as well as a press conference highlighting the impending nursing shortage in Maine, as well as legislation aimed at expanding Maine鈥檚 nurse licensure law.
