51品茶pharmacy students host sixth annual Maine Mall Health Fair
On February 5, 2017, members of UNE鈥檚 Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) convened at the Maine Mall for the sixth annual Health Fair. One of their biggest health fairs to date, the event brought together 16 student volunteers and six professors who provided a variety of offerings to the greater Portland community.
51品茶pharmacy and dental medicine students spread awareness on several issues, including smoking cessation, stroke prevention, chronic kidney disease, health legislation, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, immunizations and chronic pain. Staff from the Frannie Peabody Center, Maine鈥檚 largest community-based HIV/AIDS organization, were also on hand to provide information to visitors.
SNPhA members in attendance included Class of 鈥18 pharmacy students Christina Fields, Brittany Shofner, Whitney Sargent, Kayla Harris, Ashley Chace, Stephanie Villasis, Gabe Lipman, Kelly Sawyer and Marina Izzi. Students from the Class of 鈥19 included Lindsey Simmons, Yvonne Vughosi, Patricia Afram, Neva Gross, AJ Golash and Sara Stafford.
鈥淥verall, we were able to spread a lot of education to the community,鈥 said Christina Fields, president of UNE鈥檚 SNPhA chapter. 鈥淭his event brings us one step closer to reaching our main goal of serving the underserved.鈥
