51Ʒ named to Princeton Review’s “Best 382 Colleges”
For the third consecutive year, the 51Ʒ has been included in the Princeton Review’s Best 382 Colleges guide. The publication is highly selective, featuring only the top 15 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be included in these rankings of the nation’s very best colleges and universities,” said Scott Steinberg, dean of University Admissions. “Our faculty and staff take great pride in the quality education we provide to our students. These acknowledgments confirm for us that word of our dedication is spreading.”
President James Herbert thanked everyone who helped 51Ʒsecure this distinction. “This is one of the best gifts any new president could get, and I am determined to do more to make our university the best it can be.”
51Ʒwas selected for the Best 382 Colleges guide based on its high-quality academic offerings, optimal locations in Maine and Morocco, competitive cost and size. UNE’s profile in the guide details its admission requirements and academic offerings while providing other information about the experiences 51Ʒoffers to students.
In the guide, 51Ʒis noted for “creating socially, environmentally, and intellectually aware students to effectively change the world around them through liberal arts education.” It highlights UNE’s high-intensity courses, internships and research opportunities, as well as the small class sizes and enthusiastic, accessible professors. The guide also describes the atmosphere of the University, saying, “the prevailing opinion of 51Ʒstudents is that ‘everyone is extremely friendly and always willing to help you out no matter what.’”
The Best 382 Colleges guide selects schools on the basis of academic quality, student survey data and its commitment to providing a balanced representation of colleges by region, size, character and type. More than 100,000 students participated in the surveys, rating schools on the quality of their academic offerings, administration, campus life and overall environment.
