UNE’s Community Pharmacy Residency program, in partnership with CVS Specialty and Apothecary by Design, has been approved for accreditation.

The American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) is the national accrediting body for all pharmacy residency programs, and ASHP accreditation is considered the “gold standard”. The designation is recognition of the program’s high quality.

“I want to congratulate our UNE, CVS Specialty and Apothecary by Design colleagues, who have worked diligently to design and administer an exceptional program,” says Robert McCarthy, dean of the College of Pharmacy. “It is my hope that this accreditation will be the first of several as we continue to develop additional innovative residencies and fellowships.”

A residency is a postgraduate training program that allows the resident to perform as a licensed practitioner while training under the supervision of an experienced preceptor.

Completing a residency after graduation is a great way to begin a career in the pharmacy field.

Inaugural resident Cidnee Carrigan, Pharm.D. is now a lead specialty pharmacist at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Current resident Sarah Lant, Pharm.D. is providing pharmacy services at 51Ʒpartner sites and teaching a specialty pharmacy elective this fall at the College of Pharmacy with 51Ʒalum Kirsten Bruell, Pharm.D. ‘15.
