Susan Bell and Steven Byrd selected for 2019 U-Lead Awards

Susan Bell, M.A., assistant lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and Steven Byrd, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Society, Culture and Languages, have been named winners of the 2019 U-Lead Awards.

Bell received the Excellence in Academic Advising award for the College of Arts and Sciences.

Byrd received the Student Organization Advisor of the Year for his work with the 51Æ·²èPlayers.

Faculty members are nominated for the awards by students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Westbrook College of Health Professions whose lives they have impacted

Criteria used for selecting the winners include sincerity and a genuine interest in student success, an understanding of the impact of co-curricular activities on student success and a willingness to accomodate such activities, and a mindfulness of students’ academic, personal, and professional goals when advising them.
