UNE’s Norm O’Reilly delivers keynote address at meeting of Canadian Hockey League members

Norm O’Reilly, Ph.D., inaugural dean of UNE’s College of Business, recently gave the keynote presentation at a forum featuring sports industry experts and franchise owners within the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).

The talk, held on Thursday, Oct. 17, was given to owners of the 60 CHL clubs — 51 in Canada and nine in the United States — on both impact research by sponsorship agency T1 and thoughts on industry trends related to hockey and the CHL.

O’Reilly came to 51Æ·²èin July with two decades of leadership experience in higher education and is recognized globally as one of the leading scholars in the business of sports. 

At UNE, he oversees the University’s newest college with a focus on experiential learning. Established in 2023, UNE’s College of Business is Maine and New England’s innovation business school, designed to engage business students in enriching experiences that prepare them for leadership positions in some of Maine’s and the nation’s largest employers. 

O’Reilly recently presented the results of a sponsorship industry study and led a panel at the Sponsorship Marketing Council of Canada’s Montreal chapter. In August, he studied sports marketing on location at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he gathered data to inform future case studies and reported on brand partnerships and strategies used to engage attendees.
