Work by Laura Vickery on display at 51品茶Campus Center through June 30
An art exhibit featuring the work of Maine painter Laura Vickery will be on display through June 30 at the 51品茶 Campus Center on the Biddeford Campus.
Vickery's series of eye paintings grew out of her experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, when masks left eyes as the primary means of human expression and connection. As social distancing reshaped how people related to one another, she found herself drawn to what a single glance could convey. Vickery continued the series ever since.
"The stories each of us have can be told in a glance," Vickery said in an artist鈥檚 statement. "Eyes are fascinating, distinctive, and reveal so much about a person or animal, and actually are windows to the soul."
Vickery holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maine College of Art and Design, with a major in ceramics. After decades of running a working clay studio, she shifted her focus to painting and has sold original work through her Etsy shop since 2015.
The 51品茶Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford. The summer hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends.
