The 51Æ·²è Master of Science in Physician Assistant program participates in the . All applicants are required to apply online through this service.
Applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts must be submitted through unless otherwise instructed.
51Æ·²èPA applicants should complete a minimum of five hundred (500) hours of direct patient care experience before application submission:
- Patient care experience (PCE) is direct and hands-on, and generally takes place in a medical setting.
- Hours can be completed through paid employment, volunteer work, or academic internships.
- All hours must be documented within the , specifically within the Patient Care Experiences section. Please note: While the minimum requirement is 500 hours, the average for highly competitive applicants is typically around 3,000+ hours.

Three letters of recommendation are required — submitted through . Letters should come from individuals who can speak to the applicant’s academic abilities and/or professional experiences.
- One (1) letter must come from a practicing PA (or PA-C).
- Two (2) letters should come from other healthcare providers, professors, supervisors, or co-workers.
- Letters from friends or family members are not acceptable.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution, or international equivalent, before matriculation.
- Science (BCP) GPA of 3.0 or higher, as calculated by CASPA, is required.
- Last sixty (60) credit hours GPA of 3.0 or higher, as calculated by CASPA, is required.
- All applicants must meet or exceed the minimum GPA requirements to be considered for admission.
- All prerequisite courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C or better (C- grades are not acceptable).
- Applicants with questions about the equivalency of specific prerequisite course(s) are encouraged to submit the 51Æ·²èPA Prerequisite Equivalency form.
- All prerequisite courses must be completed at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an international equivalent.
- Prerequisite courses may be in progress or planned at the time of application, although all courses must be completed with official transcripts submitted to CASPA no later than December 31, 2026.
- All planned or in-progress coursework must be listed on the CASPA application at the time of application submission.
- Online courses offered through 51Æ·²èOnline Science Prerequisites for Health Professions, as well as online courses from other regionally accredited U.S. colleges or universities, are accepted.
- Advanced Placement (AP) test credit is accepted towards prerequisite requirements for Behavioral Science (3 cr) and Statistics (3 cr). To apply AP credits towards prerequisite requirements, the credits must be detailed by subject on the undergraduate transcript. An official letter from the University Registrar with a detailed subject breakdown is also acceptable.
The program awards additional screening points for the following:
- Higher GPA in last 60 credits take
- Higher GPA in science and prerequisite courses
- Highly recommended courses taken (Pathophysiology, Advanced Physiology, Immunology, Medical Terminology, Cell Biology, and Organic Chemistry w/lab)
- 51Æ·²èaffiliation as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Prior military experience
- Higher patient care experience hours
- Higher shadowing experience hours
- Higher volunteer experience/community service hours
- Evidence of compatibility with 51Æ·²èand PA program including program mission/goals
- Resident of a New England state
51Æ·²èCollege of Professional Studies Articulation Agreement with WCHP programs:
- Students who complete the Post-Bacc Pre-Health Program and who meet the required eligibility criteria are guaranteed an admission interview. The agreement does not guarantee program admission.

International Applicants
International applicants or applicants with foreign coursework must also submit:
- A credential evaluation from World Education Service (WES) or ECE, sent directly to OTCAS, confirming degree and grade equivalency to that of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
- Proof of English language proficiency, if English is not the applicant’s first language

What Happens After You Apply
- The Office of Graduate Admissions will notify you of receipt of your application and any missing or pending items.
- After reviewing for minimum requirements, applications are reviewed by the program for interview consideration.
- Interview sessions are by invitation only and are a required part of the application process.
- Admissions decisions are released after each interview session.
- Admitted students are required to submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit to secure their seat
Before You Attend — Compliance Requirements
Prior to matriculation, accepted and deposited students will be required to complete the following compliance requirements:
- Submission of all outstanding requirements or conditions, such as final transcripts for degree or coursework verification.
- Completion of physical examination with proof of up-to-date immunization status. Please refer to UNE’s Student Health Services for detailed information.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen prior to matriculation, as well as periodically throughout the program (as required by clinical affiliations).
- All students must be able to meet the Academic and Technical Standards of the Physician Assistant profession.

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your verified application from the Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment. All communication from Graduate Admissions and Recruitment will be sent to the email address listed on your CASPA application. If you wish to check the status of your application please email the Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment.
There are no quotas for Maine or New England students. Prospective students from all geographic regions are encouraged to apply for admission.
Yes, updates can be made post-submission. Experiences can be added, but edits of previously submitted information is not allowed. Coursework can be updated; however, updates are not verified and will not affect any GPA calculations.
Applicants reapplying to the 51Æ·²èPA program need to resubmit all application materials for any new cycle in which they apply, including: primary CAS application, transcripts, letters of recommendation, written statements and responses, fees and payments, and any additional required documentation. Applicants should also actively update their experiences, extracurricular activities, clinical involvement, and volunteering each cycle as well, to reflect the most up-to-date engagement.

Accreditation
UNE’s Physician Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
It received provisional accreditation in 1996 and continuing accreditation in 1998. The program last received continuing accreditation in September 2018. Its review for continuing accreditation is next scheduled for 2026.
